If the murder of Prime Minister Neptune is allowed to go down in Haiti, it should not only be the locals who get charged but the whole crew (foreigners and Haitians alike).
The more I read about the violent clashes which took place in St-Marc and Gonaives during the months of fueled violence leading up to the February 2004 crescendo, the more I am hunted by the images of "Hotel Rwanda". The hypocrisy, the fake statements of concern, the General sha
melessly breaking the news to the good Hotel Manager who had been so good to them, the whole time, that his "black" life is not worth the effort.
Neptune has received much praise for his "pragmatism" during the early hours following the coup.... He spoke rarely but it is important to note that Prime Minister Yvon Neptune is not only a quiet man of deep conviction but he is a careful man who made sure he spoke clear and well when he chose to do so, thus leaving enough traces to help identify who and why there is this brazen attempt to silence even him, the "pragmatic Lavalassian".

"THE RESIGNATION OF THE PRESIDENT IS NOT CONSTITUTIONAL" SAID YVON NEPTUNE, March 2, 2004!
1. "Even though I am the legal Prime Minister I am a prisoner in my office. That's a fact."
2. "The President called me a few hours before he was taken out of the country and told me, 'Where I am now, I am like a prisoner'"
3. "Whoever has allowed those a
rmed bandits in the opposition to get into Haiti and to sow violence and death, they should be in the position to control them." Asked whether he was referring to the Bush administration the Prime Minister answered: "Statements were made asking the Haitian government to meet certain requirements so that the armed gangs would not be allowed to come into the capital. That statement was made. They wanted us to quiet the demonstrators asking for President Aristide to finish his term. They wanted us to force them to stand down and stop demanding new elections. They wanted that vast majority to remain quiet. They wanted us to tell them to sit down quietly and allow the coup machine to crush them.."
4. "Some in the international community don't want Haiti to become a democracy where the majority of the poor have a voice."
5. "The coup machine is in motion because the opposition knows they cannot win elections with President Aristide in the country."
6. "The resignation of the President is not c
onstitutional because he did that under duress and threat."
7. "The chief of the Supreme court was brought here into my office by representatives of the international community. I was not invited or present when he was sworn in." It wasn't until well after this swearing in that Yvon Neptune was handed the "resignation letter" to read.
Interview with Prime Minister Yvon Neptune by Kevin Pina and Andrea Nicastro, Mar 2, 2004, Port au Prince, Haiti
Kevin Pina of KPFA Flashpoints and Black Commentator, and Andrea Nicastro of the Italian daily Corriere della Sera, interviewed Prime Minister Yvon Neptune in his office at 9:00 a.m. EST, Tuesday, March 2, 2004 (Only 2 days after the coup!).

As early as 2001, 2002 voices were rising within the Haitian community trying to tell all the players involved in fueling these conflicts that we run the risk of leading Haiti towards mass hysteria and fratricidal violence. They refused to listen to our warnings, as they still continue to
this day pretending at best to be "confused" about the situation. The comfort of adopting the Pontius Pilate attitude will not do! Especially, when there are so many signs that such an attitude might lead to even more escalation of violence in Haiti. The time has come for the powers that put Latortue and their other employees like Gousse and Vixamar as administrators of this mess to stop dodging their responsibility to clean up the mess they have created. No! this does not mean killing more people in the poor neighborhoods. It means "returning Haiti to elected, legitimate Haitian rule". There is still "a window of opportunity" to do the right thing and since the dirty little secrets will not stay hidden forever, better now than later.
Here in Canada, who can help us get Senator Roméo Dallaire to pay some attention to this file? He might be able to help avoid a repeat of mistakes already made elsewhere by these self-imposed saviors with "responsibility to protect" who, time and again, prove themselves
to be, at best, arsonist-firemen!
The time has come for the current illegal rulers of Haiti (foreign and Haitian) to:
FREE NEPTUNE ! FREE HAITI ! FREE THEIR CONSCIENCE !
