Hi everyone!
I wasn't expecting much in this festival, like many people have said, go to one festival and you've been to all of them. And of course that's pretty much what happened. But I did enjoy myself.
General thoughts on the whole thing.
Premyèman, m panse li tan pou moun k'ap òganize festival sa yo deside pou kiyes y'ap fè festival sa yo prensipalman, eske se pou Ayisyen prensipalman epi apre sa pou lot pèp, ouswa se pou pèp Ameriken an prensipalman. M remake yo bay 2 mesye fè animasyon, men apenn si yo di 5 fraz kreyol pandan tout pwogram lan. Sak pi tiye m lan, yo pede ap fe nou konnen ke moun Ayiti ap gade an direk, chak fwa yo di bagay sa, m panse ke se trè malere ke majorite Ayisyen ki ap gade sa sou televizyon Ayi
ti pap konprann anyen nan sa neg sa yo ap rakonte sou stage lan.... I get it that for whatever reason they might want one person also speaking English, but I think it's crazy that in a Haitian Festival, whatever festival that may be, the host do not host in Creole. I would think you would speak more creole and maybe add English here and there, what ever happened to "representing" HAITI ?
Imajine nou, y'ap fe yon konkou dans sou stage lan, non selman se mizik Ameriken neg yo deside pase pou 2 medam yo, lè denye fi a mande pou yon mizik Ayisyen, youn nan mesye yo konmanse di l ke yo pap pase "creole music" pou fi a danse, a la fen, DJ vin pase yon mizik Ayisyen kan menm pou dam lan. M twouve sa trè dwol ke neg la te soti pou di li fi a non li paka mande mizik Ayisyen, men an menm tan li di fi a se Ayisyen ou ye, fok ou "represent".
Yon lòt pwoblem se DJ yo...Once again, I get that for whatever reason you might want to play a few non-Haitian music during the break, but for the whole thing? Am I
to understand that these DJ's couldn't find any Haitian music that could rock the crowd? That only Rap or Reggae songs can get the crowd going? Chak ane se menm penpenp sa, yo pa janm vle jwe mizik Ayisyen pandan "break" yo.
I think it's only logical that in a HAITIAN Festival, you put emphasis on the Haitian Culture.
Bref...moving on...
One thing I really liked was the Rara There was a Bann Rara going randomly around the Festival grounds and jamming. Now there's a part of our Haitian Culture you can't deny
I'll put the performance reviews next...
