I don't have all the details of the debt purchase. But, if I understand it correctly, Haiti would still have to repay Venezuela if they buy our debts on the market. Isn't it just a swap of creditors?

As far as ALBA is concerned, you are right that perhaps Haiti would benefit from the generosity of this more privileged neighbor. The question is for how long, as the Chavez government will finish its term at some point in time and there are signs that any other succeeding rightist government in Venezuela may not continue its largesse. The other question is: Can Haiti take advantage of opportunities offered to her and grow her own economy? The jury is still out!
