Senate election results

Post by Charles Arthur » Fri Mar 03, 2006 1:55 pm

Charles Arthur writes:

Not one candidate achieved 50%+1 according to the method used by the CEP. Therefore, there will be a second round run-off election for the three Senate seats for each of the ten departments between the six candidates with the most votes in the first round. Here are the results (nearly all returns have now been processed).

It looks as though - if the first round pattern is repeated - that LESPWA will end up with between 6 and (a maximum possible) 15 of the 30 seats.

FUSION can get up to 8 seats, FANMI LAVALAS up to 6, OPL and UNION up to 5 each, and then there's the rest... RNDP, Alyans, PONT, LAAA, Mochrena, Konba, FRN, MIRN, JPDN, MPH, and GFCD.

Which means while it looks like LESPWA might be the largest party in the Senate, it won't have a majority.

Here are the top six for each department

Candidate Number / Candidate name / Party / Number of votes / Percentage of the total number of valid ballot papers and blank ballot papers added together and then divided by 3

West
1 ANACACIS JEAN HECTOR LESPWA 312.564 39,13%
*22 MIRLANDE MANIGAT RDNP 271.680 34,01%
4 EVELYNE CHERON FANMI LAVALAS 85.040 10,65%
33 STANLEY CHARLES H. THEARD JPDN 75.183 9,41%
41 MARIE DENISE CLAUDE FUSION 74.052 9,27%
27 LUCKNER DESIR MPH 71.229 8,92%

* Mirlande Manigat has withdrawn in protest at the presidential results, and perhaps the 7th placed candidate, 5 RUDY HERIVAUX FANMI LAVALAS 69.175 8,66%, will contest the second round instead of her.
